How to Train Your Dragon

Hurray time for yet another post that no one will read...woo... anyways, I will not be ragging on a movie today, but rather praising one. This movie is How to Train Your Dragon.

Personally, I loved this movie. I loved everything about it. The animations, the graphics, the story, everything. I thought that the story was very cute and heartfelt. But it also had some good action in it, which balanced the movie nicely.

The animations in the movie were awesome. They did a very good job at animating the characters, especially Toothless. I also really liked how the fire looked in the film, it was very realistic. Just as the fire was realistic looking, I thought they did a good job at making the human people look realistic while still keeping a cartoony look to them as well. Like on Hiccup, I don't know if anyone else noticed, but he has a little scar on his chin, which I thought was cool of them to add something so small like that, to really give the characters..well..character.

I'd also like to mention that I really thought Toothless was adorable. I thought his design was very sell thought out. I noticed that it was quite obvious that the designer for Toothless was the same as the one for Stitch from the movie Lilo and Stitch. I also thought it was cute how they made him act like a cat when he was in his cute mode.

Another note on the design: I found it very interesting that they designed him with a short neck. Most dragons you see have longer, snake like necks, but he didn't. This being intriguing to me, I decided I would have a go at drawing a dragon in the Toothless style, so here it is:

This little guy I like to call the Greenland Dwarf dragon. He's much smaller than Toothless, only standing about three feet high, or less. He's not exactly rideable, but even if he was, he wouldn't let you. They have temper problems.

Anyways, moving on. Overall I really enjoyed this movie thoroughly(I watched three times in one weekend), and I must recommend this to you to watch if you have not. It is a wonderfully cute movie, that is fun to watch over and over.

Goodnight!

Yogi Bear

Hello again my minuscule amount of followers! I have come bearing(haha, how coincidental of my wording as I am talking bout bears today)  gifts in the form of yet another review on a movie!

Today I will be talking about probably the stupidest movie ever. This movie is called Yogi Bear. Though I have not seen this movie yet- not that I really plan to- I can say that it's pretty much retarded. They were obviously running out of ideas for movies so they decide to bring back in the form of a movie, a cartoon that I never thought was very good from the get go.

This movie combines live action footage with 3D computer bears....already sounds stupid to me... Not only this, but they tried to make the bears look realistic all the while trying to maintain the cartoon likeness of them. I will have to say that they failed to do this...terribly..... hey might as well have filmed real bears and made them talk...you wanna know what Yogi Bear would look like in real life? This:

I'm thinking that if I saw that in real life I would be freaking out, not talking to it and reprimanding it for stealing the basket. I'd be like, "You know...I don't think I need this basket all that badly. You can have it...really, I insist..just don't kill me." Yeah.......

Other than the fact that the bears look ridiculous, the story is retarded...well for one thing, there isn't much of a story...it's a couple of retard bears that steal picnic baskets...I don't know about you, but I don't think I could stand 30 min. of that, let alone a full 90 min. movie of that. I mean how do you come up with a storyline for something like that? It's stupid...

Besides that though, I will give them credit for having a bit of good dialogue. Some of the lines in the movie are funny, but for the most part I believe this movie is a fail. The end.

Alpha and Omega

Hello, my small number of followers! I hope you have all been doing well.

Today's post will be talking about the new movie that is in theaters, Alpha and Omega. This movie is about two wolves that get  transported to a wild life reservation, and they have to find their way back home before a rival wolf pack attacks their pack. So the story line is somewhat interesting, but that's not what i have a problem with....it's the friggin' wolves. They look really awkward to me.

I think the problem is that they tried to make the wolves look too human in the face, and so the transition from the body to the face just looks really strange.

Look at this web page below and just watch the trailers...

http://teaser-trailer.com/movie/alpha-and-omega

They're movements are very strange looking no? I think this may also be caused by the fact that this is Crest Animation Production's first attempt at a 3D movie after doing only 2D before. I think they tried to put in the over exaggerated qualities of a 2D animation into this and it just didn't work.

Not only that, but the overall design of the wolves was strange, and I wonder how it got approved as he final design. They look really weird, especially the faces. I think they tried to put too human of faces and anatomy on them. Like in the clip with the reddish and white wolf, did you notice how stumpy their necks looked? Last I checked wolves had a neck. It really looks like they tried to do the anatomy of a human on the upper part of their body, and it just doesn't look right.

Also the detail and texturing is uneven on the wolves. Their bodies are all fuzzy looking, while their faces are all smooth. Also if you didn't notice look at their jaw lines.....smooth....nothing.. usually wolves have furry tufts on their cheeks and jawlines that blends into their neck fur.

This is what I think they should a bit more like...pardon the cruddy quality of my drawing as I was laying down on a bed and wasn't in the mood to do anything, but had to anyways....

See? I still think they could've done something like this and still managed to catch some of the human facial expressions..but noo~, they simplified them and made them really cheesy looking.

Now enough ragging on the design of the wolves, and onto something else- the animation.

I don't know if you guys noticed, but on the clip with the deer running, the two wolves below when it shoes them running towards the camera they look really...out of place. The speed they are running and the speed the ground doesn't seem to match very well, so they look really fake and just kind of slapped in there. Maybe it's just me, but i don't know..they look a little strange to me.

In the same clip towards the beginning when it shows the side angle if the girl wolf running...wtf is up with her crazy legs lumbering. She looks like she's kind of spazzing out and falling down at the same time.

Now that you are all probably sick and tired of me ranting about this movie, I will say that the other animals in the movie look fine, it's just the wolves.....if you see the trailer in theaters, that bear looks friggin' bad ass. I'm just saying. And just so you guys know, I will probably go see this movie anyways.

But anyways, I'm pretty much done talking about this movie, so until next time when I talk about a movie that I think was pretty much the worst fail ever. Fare thee well.

Megamind

Hello imaginary people who read this blog! How are all you? Good? Bad? Other? that's great to hear!

SO anyways, I went and saw Megamind with a friend of mine the other weekend, and it was awesome! I will have to say it was a cute movie and I really liked the different take in the classic superhero story. It was nice for a change. Putting that aside, it's time to talk about the technical aspects of the film.

Like most films nowadays, this movie was a 3D animation. I noticed on the movie that they put a lot of detail into the characters. There hair looked really nice and soft, almost real. They had nice texturing of the skin.

I thought they did a nice job with the effects of explosions, they were pretty awesome. I loves me some 'splosions. A little off the topic of effects, I liked the different kinds of gadgets they designed for the main character to use. Some of them were pretty cool looking, I'm not going to lie.

This is an idea of mine for a cool gadget.

*edit* Yay!  got the picture to show up!

This is my invention called the Gene Changer. This is an invention one of my characters invented as he is a bit of a crazy scientist inventor person. Its function is probably easily guessed by the name. It is used to change the genes of someone. Whether it to make yourself thinner, change your hair colour to blue. or completely change you gender or you personality, the Gene Changer is a powerful and possibly dangerous tool, which is why very few were made and you have to have a special license to use it.

Besides that, I was really impressed with the lighting in the movie as well. Overall I thought the graphics were amazing. Unlike a movie that I will talk about in the next post.

So long for now!

First Post YAY!

Hi my name is Taylor! I am new to blogging, so be nice to me. So this is the blog I have to do for a class I am taking this semester. We have to follow a topic in ATEC(Arts and technology), so I think I am going to do some reviews on movies and games that I like. These reviews won't be like the ones you look at before you go to see a movie, but these will review the technical specs of the movie or game, like how I thought the animated effects looked, or why I liked this game because of the gameplay or the pretty cutscenes.

I will also, for the sake of keeping people entertained with something that most will probably find boring, i may post some retarded pictures that I will draw in illustrator with my tablet thing. So! without further ado, I will start doing some reviews...in the next post.

I now leave you with a retarded picture I just drew.

I'm not sure what it is, so don't ask.
